EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern hits the hardwood once again Friday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena as head coach Joe McKeown, now in his seventh season with the Wildcats and 29th overall, seeks his 600th career victory when the 'Cats play host to his alma mater, Kent State.

CENTURY CLUB
Northwestern's 104-point outburst at Chicago State on Nov. 14 was the largest output for the program since scoring 101 in a season-opening win against UIC on Nov. 23, 1996. Last Friday's win marked the ninth time in program annals that the Wildcats reached triple digits. NU's record for most points in a game is 109 which came in a six-point victory at Michigan State on March 5, 1993. That year ('92-'93), under head coach Don Perrelli, the 'Cats also hung 103 points on Wisconsin (2/19) and 104 on Eastern Illinois (1/4). That squad reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
ON THE DEFENSIVE
Statistically speaking, the Wildcats have been arguably the top defensive team in the Big Ten early this season. Northwestern leads the 14-team conference in both scoring defense (42.0 ppg) and field goal percentage defense (.257), while ranking second in steals (16.5 spg) and three-point field goal percentage defense (.212). In addition, NU's two opponents have combined to score only 16 points in the paint against the 'Cats.
DEARY EQUALS PROGRAM RECORD
Prior to the start of the season, only one player in Northwestern history had recorded double-digit steals in a single game. Moira Kennelly stole the basketball 11 times against UW-Milwaukee on Jan. 1, 1993 and sophomore point guard Ashley Deary matched Kennelly on opening night at Chicago State. The Flower Mound, Texas, native picked up seven steals in only 10 minutes of action in the second half alone, a number alone that would have surpassed her previous career high of six (vs. Oral Roberts - 12/16/13).
THE KENT STATE KID
Northwestern head coach Joe McKeown concluded his playing career by donning the uniform of the Golden Flashes from 1976-78. McKeown served as a team captain as a senior while working his way toward All-Mid-American Conference honorable mention status. His Kent State record for 15 assists in a single game, which came against Bowling Green on March 1, 1978, still stands to this day. Upon graduation he also served as an assistant coach of the women's team at his alma mater during the 1979-80 campaign, helping the Golden Flashes to a record of 21-8.
MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Northwestern returns all five starters this year, but in the eyes of head coach Joe McKeown, it has seven starters. Senior guard Karly Roser, a 2012-13 All-Big Ten honorable mention selection, was limited to 13 games off the bench last season, however she started the first 60 games of her career as a freshman and sophomore. Junior Lauren Douglas is also one of the first players off the bench for the 'Cats. She was an All-Big Ten honorable mention selection last season and she has started 34 of 64 career games in a Wildcats uniform.
SCOUTING KENT STATE
Overall Record: 0-2
All-Time Series Record: NU leads, 1-0
Notable: The Golden Flashes return seven letterwinners, including three starters, from last year's squad that went 7-23 under head coach Danielle O'Banion, who is now in her third season at the helm. Sophomore sharpshooter Larrissa Lurken has been the leading scorer for Kent State through two games, averaging 12.5 points per game. Freshman Jordan Korinek has been leading the way on the glass with a team-best 8.0 rebounds per game. As a team, Kent State holds a rebounding margin of +8.0 this season.
