Nov. 17, 2014

EVANSTON, Ill. - Former Northwestern standout Katrina Adams was one of six inductees into the ITA Women's Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame Class of 2014. Adams was honored at the College of William and Mary on Saturday.

She is joined in the 2014 class by Stacy Margolin (Potter), Cecelia Martinez, Bob Meyers, Jeff Moore and Lindsay Morse (Bennett).

Before coming to Northwestern, Adams was the Illinois High School Association singles champion in 1983 and 1984. Her winning ways continued during her time as a Wildcat as she was named an NCAA All-American while helping Northwestern to a pair of Big Ten Championships in 1986 and 1987. During those years, Adams was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in both singles and doubles. She also was the ITA Freshman of the Year in 1986. Her NU legacy was cemented with a doubles national championship in 1987 with Diane Donnelly. The duo swept through the NCAA Tournament without losing a set as part of a 24-match win streak that resulted in a 36-2 season mark.

Adams and Donnelly are the most dominant tandem to ever wear the purple. They hold Northwestern records with 26 wins in a season (1986), 21 consecutive matches won (1987), 28 consecutive sets won (1987), best winning percentage (1.000, 21-0 in 1987) and fewest sets lost (2 in 1987).

Adams turned pro in 1988 and made it to the Round of 16 in singles at Wimbledon during her rookie season. She earned a doubles rankings as high as No. 8 in the world in 1989 and won 20 doubles titles in her 12-year professional career.

She is a 1997 inductee of the Northwestern Athletics Hall of Fame.

Adams is currently a television commentator for the Tennis Channel, a position she has held since 2003, and serves as an executive director of the Harlem Junior Tennis League. In January 2013, she began a two-year term as First Vice President of the USTA and is set to become Chairman of the Board, CEO and President of the USTA in January 2015.
