EVANSTON, Ill. -- Tyler Miller and Nikko Boxall were named as the best at their positions in the Big Ten, and Joey Calistri, Cole Missimo, Sam Forsgren, Elo Ozumba and Connor Holloway all earned league honors, the Conference announced Wednesday night live on the Big Ten Network Soccer Report.
Miller was a unanimous selection as the Big Ten's Goalkeeper of the Year and one of only two unanimously selected members of the All-Big Ten First Team.
The senior from Woodbury, N.J. leads the Big Ten in goals against average (0.56) save percentage (.853) and shutouts (9). He was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in both 2011 and 2012 before injury cut short a 2013 campaign where he still ranked second in the league with eight clean sheets. The Wildcats career shutout record-holder earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors this year on Sept. 22 and Nov. 6.
Boxall earned the 2014 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Award, and First Team All-Big Ten laurels, by anchoring a Northwestern back line that allowed just 11 goals, the lowest mark in the Big Ten. The Auckland, New Zealand, native scored two goals and collected three assists. Last season, Boxall earned second team All-Big Ten honors, and was a first team selection in 2012.
Calistri and Missimo were both named to the All-Big Ten Second Team. It is the third All-Big Ten recognition in three college seasons for Calistri, a native of Deerfield, Ill., who ranked sixth in the Big Ten with a team-high six goals in 2014. A Dallas native and member of the 2012 All-Freshman Team, Missimo built on a torrid finish to the 2013 season by ranking second on the team with five goals and sharing the club lead with 14 points this year.
Ozumba and Forsgren were both Big Ten All-Freshman Team selections. Ozumba shared the team lead with four assists in his rookie season, while Forsgren led all Wildcats freshmen with 10 starts and collected a goal and two helpers in his first collegiate campaign.
Team captain Connor Holloway was selected as Northwestern's Sportsmanship Award honoree. The senior from Deerfield, Ill. is one of nine Big Ten student-athletes chosen as individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior, and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Northwestern wrapped up the Big Ten campaign just one point shy of a third regular-season title in four years. The Wildcats now await their draw in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, announced on Monday, Nov. 17 at 12 p.m. CT.
