Big Ten Indoors Singles Draws
MINNEAPOLIS -- Senior Alex Pasareanu advanced to the round of 16 on the opening day of singles competition at the Big Ten Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Minnesota.
Pasareanu, the 15th-seeded player in the draw, opened his day by cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Nebraska's Chris Schindler. In his second match of the day, Pasareanu needed to go three sets to earn a 6-3,m3-6, 6-4 win over Davis Crocker of Michigan.
The Wildcat will take on sixth-seeded Mateus Silva of Purdue in Sunday's round of 16. The quarterfinal round will also be played Sunday.
Fellow senior Alberto Zanotti was also in action Saturday and he started his day of right, taking down Iowa's Nils Hallestrand 6-1, 6-3. However, Zanotti was defeated in the round of 32 6-1, 6-2 by second-seeded Felix Corwin of Minnesota.
Zanotti faces Alex Kim of Michigan State in the consolation bracket on Sunday morning.
