USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational Draws

ORLANDO, Fla. - All four Northwestern players at the UTSA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational advanced through the first-round in Orlando, Fla. on Thursday.

Lok Sze Leung and Brooke Rischbieth were winners in straight sets. Rischbieth, competing in draw "A," handled Olga Martinez of South Florida by a 6-4, 7-6 (4) margin. She will play Virginia Tech's Francesca Fusinato on Friday. Leung played Arijana Korac of Stetson in draw "B" and won 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the next round, where she will meet Louise Kwong from Illinois.

Also moving on in draw "A" was Manon Peri who dropped the first set to Auburn's Paula de Man but charged back to win each of the next two sets by identical 6-4 scores. Peri is set to take on Lina Lileikite of Miami, the draw's second seed. Jillian Rooney lost the first set as well to Annina Brendel from Youngstown State in draw "B" but came back to win the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Rooney will match up against Miami's Clementina Riobueno in the next round.

The NU doubles team in action Thursday was also a winner, as Rischbieth and Leung eased past Hortense Boscher and Katelyn Jackson of Texas Tech by an 8-1 score. The other tandem for the `Cats, consisting of Peri and Rooney, had a first-round bye.

Friday's action from the Wide World of Sports Complex begins at 7 a.m.
