EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has opened the 2014-15 season with the No. 21 ranking in the first College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) dual-meet poll of the year.

The Wildcats are 3-0 to begin the season with wins over UIC, Oakland and perennial Mid-American Conference power Eastern Michigan. NU faces a tough test in its next outing Nov. 7-8 when it travels to Lexington, Ky., for a quad dual with Kentucky, Southern Illinois and Missouri, which is receiving votes in the first ranking.

The CSCAA poll is not designed to predict the results of the NCAA Championships, but instead which teams would win head-to-head against each other. The ranking is based on performances that have taken place since the previous poll and includes invitationals as well as dual meets.

Northwestern finished 29th in the nation last year on the strength of junior Jordan Wilimovsky's (Malibu, Calif./Malibu) fourth-place finish in the 1,650 free. While Wilimovsky is again a contender for a national title in that event, several other Wildcats are seeking to join him at the meet this year which gives NU good depth across a number of events in dual competition.
