Northwestern's Run at ITA Midwest Regionals Comes to an End

URBANA, Ill. - Northwestern's quest to send an automatic qualifier to the ITA National Indoor Championships ended on Monday with two quarterfinal defeats.

Alicia Barnett and Lok Sze Leung ran into nationally-ranked conference foes from Michigan in the day's early action and both were defeated in tough matches.

No. 21 Ronit Yurovsky prevailed over the Wildcats' Alicia Barnett, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, while Leung went down 6-2, 6-1 to No. 77 Sarah Lee.

The championship match will feature a pair of Wolverines, as Yurovsky squares off against 11th-ranked Emina Bektas.

Barnett and Leung are both eligible for at-large spots in the national event, which will take place from Nov. 6 through Nov. 9.

The Wildcats are back in action at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Friday, Oct. 31. The annual event, hosted by the University of Alabama, runs to Nov. 2.
