ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior Alberto Zanotti and sophomore Alp Horoz captured two victories a piece in the qualifying singles draw to kick off Northwestern's weekend at the ITA Midwest Regional. If they can win one more tomorrow, they will secure spots into the main draw.
The first round of the main doubles draw begins at 1 p.m. tomorrow, followed by the first round of the main singles draw at 3 p.m.
Zanotti outlasted Mirko Radosevic of Cleveland State in the first round 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 before knocking off the bracket's No. 1 seed Brendon Kempin of Notre Dame 6-0, 6-1 in the second.
Horoz took two sets to beat Notre Dame's Michael Fredericka 6-3, 6-4 in his opening match and went on to defeat DePaul's Alex Galoustian 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
