EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior goalkeeper Maddy Carpenter (Wilbraham, Mass./Suffield Academy) has been named the Big Ten Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week the conference office announced Tuesday.

It is the fifth such honor of Carpenter's career.

Carpenter played an unscored upon 154:53 of action in leading Northwestern to back-to-back Big Ten shutout wins. It marked the first time that the Wildcats have shut out consecutive conference opponents since the 1994 season.

Carpenter made two saves and held Rutgers without a goal through regulation and 14:53 of overtime in NU's 1-0 win on Friday. She followed up the effort by making three saves in the shutout win over No. 17 Indiana on Sunday.

She has started all 11 of the team's matches in goal this season and sports a 1.70 goals-against average with a .714 save percentage.

Northwestern moved up two spots to No. 11 in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA top-20 poll. The Wildcats are 8-3 overall, including 3-0 in Big Ten play. NU travels to No. 7 Iowa on Sunday for a matchup of the Big Ten's two remaining unbeaten teams. The contest is slated for a noon start.
