EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will host the 18th edition of the Windon Memorial Classic on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 21-22, at Evanston Golf Club in Skokie, Ill. The tournament will kick off the Wildcats' 2014-15 season.

The 2014 Windon Memorial Classic will feature a return to Evanston Golf Club, which first hosted the tournament in 2011. The par-70 Donald Ross design opened in 1917 and was restored by Donald Ross' Ron Pritchard in 2006. Teams will play 36 holes Sunday, Sept. 21 with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT and the final 18 holes Monday, Sept. 22, with tee times off both nines starting at 8 a.m. CT.

Northwestern will be joined in the field this year by Ohio State, Marquette, North Texas, Minnesota, Lamar, Michigan, Iowa, Purdue, Tulsa, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, St. Johns, Tennessee and California, which finished 11th at the NCAA Championships last year after winning an NCAA-record 12 stroke play tournaments during 2012-13.

Northwestern captured the 2013 Windon at Knollwood Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill., thanks to a second-place finish by then-senior Jack Perry and a third-place result by newly minted professional golfer Matt Fitzpatrick. The victory was NU's fourth in the history of the tournament.

The Wildcats graduated Perry and lost Fitzpatrick to the professional ranks last year, but have three strong freshmen ready to break into the team lineup immediately. Dylan Wu (Medford, Ore./St. Mary's School) is the most highly touted of the three; he enters school after showing the ability to go low with an eight-birdie 5-under 65 at the 2014 Pacific Coast Amateur Championship this summer. Charles Wang (Beijing, China/Sarasota Christian School) opened the 2014 Florida Open with a 6-under 66 before finishing as the low amateur at the event. Sam Triplett (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy Prep) had a top-10 finish at the 2014 Arizona Public Links Championship this summer.

Those newcomers will join three senior veterans for NU in Bennett Lavin (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield), Matthew Negri (El Cajon, Calif./Grossmont) and Scott Smith (Pepper Pike, Ohio/University School), and junior Josh Jamieson (St. Andrews, Scotland/High School of Dundee), who had the best summer of any Wildcat in 2014. After taking third at the Scottish U-21 Championship at his home course of St. Andrews, Jamieson won six matches including a quarterfinal victory over reigning British Amateur champ Bradley Neil to advance to the semifinals of the Scottish Amateur Championship. Jamieson made 29 birdies and an eagle in his seven match romp through the 256-man draw.

The Windon has an illustrious history, with current PGA TOUR members Luke Donald, Joe Ogilvie, Tiger Woods, Gary Woodland and Ben Curtis finishing as runners-up in the event. Donald and current PGA TOUR members Mahan and Colt Knost are past champions.
