EVANSTON, Ill. -- With a roster featuring three returning All-Big Ten honorees and two freshmen ranked in the top-10 of their recruiting class, Northwestern opens the 2014-15 season Sept. 15-16 at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
Northwestern finished fourth at this tournament one year ago and returns to the 16-team event to kick off a new season. Day one features 36 holes of play beginning with an 8 a.m. local/9 a.m. CT shotgun start Monday, Sept. 15, with the final round also featuring a shotgun at the same time on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Live scoring will be provided by Birdiefire.com.
The tournament is the first of three in a four-week span as the Wildcats hit the ground running in 2014-15. That stretch culminates in NU's own Windy City Collegiate Classic Oct. 6-7 at Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Ill.
Northwestern has surged to the upper echelon of women's golf in recent years, winning its first-ever Big Ten Championship in 2013 before capturing consecutive 15th-place NCAA finishes in 2013-14. The Wildcats' deep lineup earned four All-Big Ten awards a year ago and excelled on the summer circuit.
Senior Hana Lee (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Wilson), junior Kaitlin Park (Tustin, Calif./Beckman) and sophomore Kacie Komoto (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) are NU's All-Big Ten returners, with Lee adding a Golfweek All-America honorable mention accolade as well. Freshmen Sarah Cho (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) and Hannah Kim (Chula Vista, Calif./Otay Ranch) are challenging to crack the lineup right away, with Cho ranking fourth and Kim ninth nationally in their recruiting class per Junior Golf Scoreboard.
At last year's Dick McGuire, Lee led Northwestern with a seventh-place finish at 1-under 218 while Suchaya Tangkamolprasert (Bangkok, Thailand/Bromsgrove International School) and Komoto both had top-20 results.
