ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Freshman Kim Jerantowski notched her second goal of the season in the 30th minute to give the Wildcats a 1-0 win over the Saint Louis Billikens on Sunday afternoon in Missouri. Classmate Lauren Clem recorded her third shutout of the season, the fourth time in the last five contests Northwestern has blanked an opponent.

After the two teams traded chances over the first 30 minutes of action, senior Katie Landgrebe attacked down the right wing and served a fantastic cross into the box. The service found a streaking Jerantowski who buried a shot into the upper corner with her first touch from just outside the six-yard box. The freshman from Lemont, Ill., has scored two goals in her last three games after a prolific offensive career in high school that produced school records for goals in a game (4), season (27) and career (90).

As the home side mounted a more urgent attack in the second half, freshman netminder Lauren Clem came to the rescue. A Billiken got loose in the middle of the field and unleashed a shot from outside the box that seemed headed just under the bar and into the back of the net. Clem used some quick footwork and leapt backward, tipping the ball just over the bar to preserve the lead and the clean sheet.

The Wildcats improved to 4-1-1 on the season, closing out the non-conference slate with the program's best record since 2007. Since dropping the season opener on the road in Milwaukee, head coach Michael Moynihan's club has surrendered just one goal over its last five tilts.

Northwestern will open Big Ten Conference play on Thursday afternoon with a visit to Lincoln, Nebraska to take on the Cornhuskers, the reigning Conference champions. The game kicks off at 2:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast worldwide on Big Ten Network and BTN2Go.
