MINNEAPOLIS – During the final day of the Big Ten Championships, sophomore Julianne Kurke put Northwestern in scoring position in the breaststroke again.
During Saturday's prelims at the University of Minnesota, Kurke finished No. 11 in the 200 yard breastoke, swimming an NCAA “B” Cut time while cutting 0.32 off her time to 2:14.48 to earn a second swim in the scoring consolation round.
Kurke's time was the fourth fastest time in the 200 breast in Northwestern history.
Also in the 200 breast, senior Sarah Goss cut her season best time to 2:18.02, finishing No. 22 to advance to the bonus final.
Platform diving continues throughout the afternoon and the finals begin at 6:30 p.m. CT.
In the 200 fly, sophomore Emily Launer cut nearly three full seconds off her season best time, setting a new mark with a 2:02.84 tim.e
The 100 free saw a number of Wildcats post their best times of the season. Freshman Annika Winsnes swam a 50.77, the 'Cats fastest time of the season. Senior Jackie Powell cut 0.07 off her time with a 41.19 and Lacey Smith lowered her time by 0.34 to a 51.33. Also in the 100 free, Julia Pratt went 51.47, Valerie Nubbe swam 51.69 and Erika Elliott posted a 53.36 time, all season bests.
