2013 Northwestern Women's Soccer Season In Review
Great Kate
Senior forward Kate Allen wrapped up her Northwestern career with her name cemented in the record book. She tied for the team lead with three goals in 2013, meaning she led the team in goals all four years at Northwestern. She finished her career with 21 goals, which ranks third in Northwestern history.
Here's a closer look at where Allen ranks in the NU record book:
Career Points: 52 (4th)
Career Goals: 21 (3rd)
Career Assists: 10 (T-10th)
Points in a Season: 17 in 2012 (T-9th)
Goals in a Season: 7 in 2012 (T-8th)
Landgrebe Leads
Junior forward Katie Landgrebe also tied for the team lead, along with Kate Allen and Julie Sierks, scoring three goals in 2013. She emerged as a key contributor on the NU offense as all three of her career goals were scored this year. She also was efficient with her shot selection as those three goals were scored off of 14 total shots and seven total shots on goal all year. Landgrebe played all 19 matches, starting three, for Northwestern this year.
Always Alyinovich
Junior defender Jackie Alyinovich has provided a consistent presence on the Northwestern defense for the last three seasons. She has played in all 57 matches the last three seasons, starting 56. This year, Alyinovich played every minute on the NU back line, helping the Wildcats record four shutouts. In fact, Alyinovich has not subbed out of a game since Sept. 30, 2012 when she just played the first half at Indiana. Since then, she has logged 2,334+ straight minutes on the NU defense, helping the squad shut out six opponents in that span.
Count On Sierks
Midfielder Julie Sierks made her fourth start of the season vs. Illinois and made the most of her 90 minutes on the field, scoring her career-best third goal of the season. The Edina, Minn., native finished the year, tied for the team lead along with Kate Allen and Katie Landgrebe with three goals in 2013 and tied for third on the team in points with six. Prior to this year, Sierks had just one goal, which came during her freshman season. Sierks scored her three goals off of eight shots on goal.
Steiner Breaks Through
Freshman forward Addie Steiner threatened on the Northwestern offense all season and her efforts paid off in NU's win over Minnesota as she scored her first career goal. The NU newcomer led the team against the Gophers with six shots, including three on goal, in 48 minutes off the bench. Her look in the 79th minute found the back of the net after Kate Allen sent a pass to Steiner and she converted from about 17 yards out. Steiner played in all 19 matches in 2013, starting 11, and finished second on the team with two goals and tied for third with six points.
Positive Trend
Northwestern's offensive numbers have been on the upswing since head coach Michael Moynihan joined the program. This year, the Wildcats averaged 14.1 shots per game, an improvement upon last year's mark of 10.3 shots per game. In 2011, the year before Moynihan arrived, the Wildcats had just 9.9 shots per contest.

Northwestern played a tough schedule in 2013, facing 12 teams that made the 2013 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament and eight that were ranked or receiving votes in the final NSCAA Poll. Here's a look at the NCAA tournament teams NU faced and how far they advanced in the field:
