EVANSTON, Ill. - YWCA Evanston/North Shore is hosting its 14th annual "Ricky Byrdsong Memorial Race Against Hate" at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, June 16. The event is dedicated to the honor of the former Northwestern men's basketball coach who was tragically killed in a hate crime in his suburban Chicago neighborhood on July 2, 1999.
The event consists of a 10K run, followed by a 5K run/walk and then a youth mile. The course begins at Long Field, on the corner of Lincoln Street and Sheridan Road in Evanston.
Online pre-registration for the event has closed. However, participants can still pre-register and pick up their packets in person at the following locations:
Friday, June 14 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Murphy's Fit, 513 Dempster, Evanston
Saturday, June 15, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at YWCA Evanston/North Shore, 1215 Church, Evanston
Race day registration begins at 6:15 a.m. at Long Field and is $39 for the 10K/5K/walk and $15 for the youth mile. Shirts and goodie bags will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and are only guaranteed to the first 4,000 people to pick up their packets.

The race serves as a great tune-up for this year's second annual Run For Walk which is being held July 28.
