EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern junior Mari Majam (Pine Valley, Calif./Mountain Empire) has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week for her performance in NU's weekend sweep of Illinois at Sharon J. Drysdale Field.

Majam batted .778 (7-for-9) with a double, a grand slam, five total RBIs and four runs scored in the Wildcats' three games versus the Illini to claim her first-career B1G Player of the Week honor. In the first game she went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI before again finishing 2-for-3 in game two, this time breaking the game open early with a grand slam. In Sunday's finale, Majam was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a run and a steal.

Majam shares this week's honor with Michigan's Sierra Romero. Majam's award is the second-straight Big Ten Player of the Week accolade for Northwestern after sophomore Amy Letourneau (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) received the nod en route to being named the consensus National Player of the Week by the NFCA and USA Softball on April 2.

Northwestern returns to action in its current 12-game homestand at 4 p.m. CT Tuesday, April 9, against Notre Dame before welcoming Iowa to Sharon J. Drysdale Field for a weekend B1G series starting at 4 p.m. CT Friday.
