American Lacrosse Conference -- Official Website
EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the second time this season, the American Lacrosse Conference recognized Northwestern senior goalkeeper Brianne LoManto as the league's Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday. LoManto recorded 13 total saves in a pair of Wildcat wins over ranked opponents last weekend, lowering her NCAA-best goals against average to 6.36.
LoManto especially shined against 12th-ranked Penn State Friday evening, making six first-half saves with the game still in doubt and finishing with eight for the game, her second straight eight-save performance. She also kept PSU to a 2-for-7 success rate on 8-meter attempts.
LoManto followed that effort with five saves against the eighth-ranked Quakers of Penn Sunday, bringing her season total to 69. LoManto boasts a save percentage of .493 this year, good for 12th nationally.
On Friday, LoManto and the Wildcats entertain ACC champion North Carolina at 7 p.m. CT at Lakeside Field in a rematch of NU's 2011 NCAA semifinal battle. The game will air live on the Big Ten Network.
