EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has announced that senior Annelise Eeman (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) of the fencing team and freshman Matthew Margritier (Leawood, Kan./Rockhurst) of the men's swimming team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances last weekend.
Eeman helped Northwestern to a perfect 6-0 mark at the season-opening Western Invitational, posting an undefeated mark in her individual bouts. Eeman and her fellow sabreists combined to post a 24-3 mark in all matches.
Margritier gave NU its first individual win during the Wildcats' double dual against Lewis and Carthage College, winning the 200 free in a time of 1:42.04. That time left him just six one-hundredths of a second away from matching the Northwestern pool record for the event. He then contributed to a victory and a pool record in the 200 free relay as the 'Cats won with a 7.64-second margin of victory.
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is sophomore Venric Mark (Tomball, Texas/St. Pius X) of the football team. On Northwestern's recent bowl trip to Houston, Mark and nine of his teammates took time out from preparing for the Meineke Car Care Bowl to visit the DePelchin Children's Center. Mark, a Houston native, signed autographs, posed for pictures and brought Wildcat gifts for the children at the center.
