EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern freshman goalkeeper Tyler Miller was one of 36 players selected to participate in the United States Under-20 Men's National Team Camp, which began Jan. 2, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and runs through Jan. 9. Miller is one of four goalies attending the camp, which helps prepare for the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup qualifying tournament. The FIFA U-20 World Cup, hosted by Turkey, spans from June 21-July 13, 2013, and every player on the U.S. Under-20 roster is age-eligible for the competition.
Miller is one of three Big Ten players selected to the Under-20 team, along with Wisconsin defender A.J. Cochran and Penn State keeper Andrew Wolverton. The complete 36-man roster also includes three players with MLS experience and 10 players that are based abroad.
Miller had a banner year in his first season with the Wildcats and played a key part in Northwestern's Big Ten regular season and tournament championships. The Woodbury, N.J., native was this year's goalie selection on the first-team All-Big Ten list and a unanimous choice for the conference's All-Freshman Team after leading the Wildcats to nine shutouts with a goals-against average of 0.86. Miller also earned postseason accolades as a member of College Soccer News' All-Freshman Team and an All-Great Lakes Region honoree.
Last year, fellow freshman Nikko Boxall competed for the New Zealand Under-20 National Team at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia.
