KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A trio of Northwestern fencers will head to Kansas City this weekend where they will compete to earn valuable senior points in an attempt to qualify for the USA Fencing Division I National Championships.
The Wildcats will be represented in each of the three weapons in the division I category. On Friday, Dec. 9, Dayana Sarkisova (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) will compete in the women's foil. The junior has had a successful fall campaign with a ninth-place finish at the Penn State Garret Open and a pair of gold medals at the USFA Remenyik Open and USFA Burton Open.
On Saturday, Dec. 10, another junior, Chloe Grainger (Decatur, Ga./Decatur) will bout in the women's sabre. Grainger also has a pair of gold medals under her belt this year from the Burton and Remenyik Opens.
Finally, Courtney Dumas (Cleveland, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) will compete in Sunday's epée competition. Dumas finished third at the USFA Junior North American Cup in Austin, Texas last month.
The Wildcats will officially be back in action on January 7, 2012 when the dual season commences in Colorado Springs, Colo. at Air Force.
