FLUSHING, N.Y. -- A pair of Wildcats posted yet another win on Friday morning at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships and have advanced to the semifinals of the tournament, which is being held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.
For the second straight day, Northwestern's Linda Abu Mushrefova (Bradenton, Fla./Pendleton) and Nida Hamilton (Oak Brook, Ill./Hinsdale Central) won their match in the main doubles draw. After knocking off TCU's Millie Nichols and Olivia Smith in the round of 16 on Thursday, Mushrefova and Hamilton were at it again on Friday. The duo, seeded fourth in the 20-team field, defeated Alex Kelleher and Olga Khymlev of Boston College, 8-4.
In Saturday's semifinal match, the 'Cats will take on Southern California's tandem of Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria. The two Trojans knocked off Clemson's Josipa Bek and Keri Wong on Thursday, 8-6. The other semifinal match features the No. 1 seed, Stanford's Mallory Burdette and Nicole Gibbs and the No. 3 seed, Notre Dame's Kristy Frilling and Shannon Mathews. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday.
