NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

Nov. 2, 2011

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Drake Dunsmore (Lenexa, Kan./Saint Thomas Aquinas) of the football team and junior Audrey Huth (Shelby, Mich./Utica) of the cross country team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.

Dunsmore was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and the John Mackey Tight End of the Week following his record-setting outburst at Indiana on Saturday. Dunsmore broke Northwestern's all-time mark for single-game touchdown receptions with four and finished with seven catches for 112 yards. In the process, Dunsmore also broke Northwestern's record for career receiving yards by a tight end, topping the previous mark held by Jon Harvey since 1983. Dunsmore now has 127 catches for 1,373 yards as well as 14 touchdowns, which places him in a tie for fourth all-time at Northwestern.

Huth led Northwestern to its best finish at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships in nine years with an eighth-place team showing. Huth crossed in 10th place in the individual standings, becoming the first Wildcat since 2002 to earn All-Big Ten status. The junior was just one second off of her own 6K school-record time set last season, posting a time of 20:38.

This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is senior Adrienne Monka (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) of the softball team. Monka, along with many other NU student-athletes volunteered at the Evanston Women's Club Annual Fairy Tale Trail on Saturday, Oct. 30. The fully accessible, fantasy-filled labyrinth is a fun, non-frightening alternative to the typical Halloween open house. The Trail was developed to provide a safe alternative Halloween experience for schoolchildren with disabilities who may not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy the holiday. The student-athletes participated in the fun by dressing up and staffing each room with a different children's story theme.
