EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern looks to wrap-up the regular season with a victory at home against Louisville Sunday. Game time is set for noon, with the Wildcats saluting five seniors-- Megan Jamieson, Claire Thompson , Jaimie Orrico , Kaylee Pohlmeyer and Regan Mooney --prior to the contest.
Year-End Aspirations
With a win last Saturday against Pacific, Northwestern secured its third consecutive winning season under head coach Tracey Fuchs, who will once again be following the game away from the sidelines, but with good reasons. Fuchs is visiting our neighbors to the South on business, assisting the United States' national team in the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. After defeating Canada on Wednesday, 4-2, the U.S. has its eyes set on the gold medal match against No. 1 Argentina Saturday to secure a spot in the 2012 Olympics in London, England.
On the homefront, the Wildcats are trying to do something they haven't done since 1995, and that's accumulate 13 wins in a single season. Behind junior star Chelsea Armstrong, who has the NU records for both career points and career goals, Northwestern looks to reach that mark, all the while hosting its sixth top-20 opponent at home.
Scouting the Cardinals
Louisville (10-7, 3-3) is a young team, but not without its fair share of upperclass leadership. Hayley Turner leads UL with 28 points on the season, while redshirt junior Erin Conrad holds down the cage with 84 saves this year.
Up Next
Following the weekend, all seven teams in the Big Ten are set to convene in University Park, Pa., for the 2011 Big Ten Tournament from Nov. 3-6.
