EVANSTON, Ill. - It was a close match the entire afternoon at Lakeside Field but Indiana's Lisa Nouanesengsy found the back of the net in the second half as the Hoosiers defeated Northwestern, 1-0. Sophomore Sam Hatfield (Crossfield, Alberta/W.G. Murdoch) made her first career start in goal for Northwestern and registered three saves before Nouanesengy's goal at the 70:27 mark.

"It's been really hard for us to get results and I think we've played symptomatically with a lot of losses behind us," Northwestern head coach Stephanie Foster said. "I'm just inspired that our team showed up today, picked their heads up and fought. I don't necessarily think Indiana stole it from us; they had some good chances and our goalkeeper stepped up huge today. We just need more courage with the chances we get so we can put it away because we were on top of this game."

Northwestern attacked throughout the game and finished with the 16-9 advantage on shots. The Wildcats dominated the Hoosiers in shots with the 8-1 lead after the first frame, but both teams had eight shots in the second half.

NU had six shots on goal and all six were saved by IU goalkeeper Lindsay Campbell. The Hoosiers finished with four looks at the net.

Sophomore Kate Allen (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) led the Wildcats with five shots, two on goal, while IU's Orianica Velasquez also had five shots and two on goal. Senior Jill Dunn (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), senior Emily Langston (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos), freshman Niki Sebo (Downers Grove, Ill./North) and sophomore Julie Sierks (Edina, Minn./Edina) also had two shots each.

Next up for Northwestern is another Big Ten road game on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Wildcats take on Michigan at 6 p.m. in Ann Arbor.
