EVANSTON, Ill. -- Following a week away from competition, Northwestern heads north this weekend for the third-annual Wisconsin adidas Invitational in Madison. Start time for the women's 6K race on Friday is set for 1 p.m. at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.

April Likhite's Wildcats enter the race with a No. 9 ranking in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional poll, making them one of six squads ranked in the top 15 in the Midwest that will be competing in Madison. The top three schools in the region -- Iowa State, Minnesota and Iowa -- are among those in the field.

In all, there are 18 nationally ranked teams scheduled to line up for Wisconsin Invitational.

Northwestern last competed on the Zimmer Cross Country Course in Madison in last year's Big Ten Championships meet, where Audrey Huth led the Wildcats with her 6K time of 20:52.7, good for 20th place in the event. Huth would drop nearly 20 seconds off that time in setting the NU school record two weeks later at the Regional Championships. Northwestern also opened its 2010 campaign in Madison when it placed first in the team standings at the Badger Classic.

This is Northwestern's second 6K test of the year after also running that distance at the Roy Griak Invite on Sept. 24. Huth paced the 'Cats in 21:08 and was followed by Lexie Goldsmith (22:05), Ann Powers (22:25), Sophie Ewald (22:26) and Rachel Kaminski (22:33).

Last Time Out:
Northwestern ran to a second-place finish in the Gold Division of the adidas Notre Dame Invitational at the Notre Dame Golf Course on Sept. 30 in South Bend. Junior Audrey Huth won the 5K race with a season-best time of 17:29, 16 seconds better than her closest competitor.

The Wildcats finished with 56 points, 16 shy of winner Grand Valley State, which placed three runners in the top five of the event. Central Michigan placed third with 61 points.

Complete results from Friday's meet will be posted on NUsports.com following its conclusion.
