JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Former Northwestern men's tennis assistant coach Adam Schaechterle was named the head coach at the University of North Florida Tuesday.
Schaecterle spent the 2010-11 season as an assistant for the Wildcats under head coach Arvid Swan.
Following his graduation in 2006 from Northwestern, Schaechterle spent one season as a volunteer assistant at NU before assuming an integral role in player development at Wilson Sporting Goods.
Schaechterle began his career at Wilson in 2007 working to build the Wilson brand at the U.S. Junior and College levels, recruiting and managing more than 100 of the nation's top junior prospects. After two years, Schaechterle was promoted to the position of Tour and Juniors Manager in the Americas, a role in which he managed players with world rankings inside the top 25 and was responsible for signing several of the biggest young names in tennis to Wilson.
As a student-athlete at Northwestern, Schaechterle led the Wildcats to a berth in the 2005 NCAA Championships and qualified individually for the 2006 NCAA Doubles Championship. A captain in his senior campaign, Schaechterle was his teammates' unanimous choice as the winner of the 2006 Vandy Christie Award, given annually to the Wildcat who demonstrates outstanding loyalty and dedication to Northwestern tennis.
Schaechterle, winner of 61 career singles matches, also was NU's male recipient of the 2006 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes exemplary sportsmanship and contributions to one's community.
A native of Oconomowoc, Wis., Schaechterle graduated from Northwestern's Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences with a dual degree in English and history.
