Armstrong Earns Big Ten Honors for Third Time; NU Ranked 14th In NFHCA Poll

Oct. 4, 2011

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern forward Chelsea Armstrong was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. The junior was given the weekly award for a conference-best third time this season after scoring seven goals and notching two assists (16 points) in three games. The 'Cats went 2-1 over the week, vaulting them into 14th place in this week's 2011 Kookaburra/NFHCA National Coaches Polls, the program's highest ranking since 1996.

Against Saint Louis on Tuesday, the Aussie recorded the seventh hat trick of her career in the 6-1 victory at home. With her first goal of the day, Armstrong surpassed Nancy Fisher for first all-time for goals scored in NU history (she now has 66 goals in her career). Against Michigan State on Thursday, Armstrong had her hand in all three scores for the Wildcats, assisting the first and netting the final two in the 3-0 win over the Spartans. The assist on the day gave her five for the season.

With Northwestern down 3-1 in the second half to Penn State on Saturday, Armstrong took the reigns on offense for the 'Cats, scoring twice in a span of 11 minutes to even things up and force an overtime period with the seventh-ranked team in the country. Her two goals on the day left her with a Big Ten-leading 20 on the season and conference-high 45 points.

Armstrong, named the 2010 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, now has 12 Big Ten Player of the Week accolades during her career.

No. 14 Northwestern (10-4, 1-2) begins a six-game homestand to close out the season when both No. 13 Michigan and Yale come to Lakeside Field for the weekend. The 'Cats will face the Wolverines at 3 p.m. Friday and the Bulldogs at noon Sunday.
