ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Northwestern, ranked No. 8 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional poll, took on many of the nation's top squads and placed 16th during the 26th running of the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota Saturday. Junior Audrey Huth again paced NU, finishing 17th out of 272 entrants and completing a difficult 6K course in a time of 21:08.

Huth's 17th-place showing was an improvement over her last trip to the highly competitive meet when she took 36th as a freshman in 2009.

Northwestern's second finisher was sophomore Lexie Goldsmith, who crossed in 22:05 to finish in 75th. Sophomore Ann Powers (22:25) and seniors Sophie Ewald (22:26) and Rachel Kaminski (22:33) finished in the next pack to round out NU's scorers at the meet.

Among the teams Northwestern topped at the Griak was Kansas State, which entered the weekend ranked two positions higher than NU in the USTFCCCA Regional rankings. K-State finished 20th as a team on Saturday. California, previously unranked nationally, shared first in the team standings with No. 9 Iowa State.

Also on Saturday, Northwestern sent a large contingent to the Forester Invitational hosted by Lake Forest. The 'Cats dominated the event with just 22 team points, 59 better than second-place Illinois-Chicago (81).

Sophomore Julia Buford placed second overall in the 5K meet with a time of 18:39.5, less than a second off the winning time of 18:39.0 set by UIC's Tess Ehrhardt. Junior Janelle Li-A-Ping was third overall in 18:55 while senior Hallie Busta was NU's third finisher in the top five with a time of 19:02.

Complete results from both meets are linked at the top of the page.

Next week, Northwestern heads to South Bend, Ind., for the Notre Dame Invitational, with start time for the event set for 2 p.m. Friday.
