WACO, Texas -- Northwestern junior tennis player Spencer Wolf (Coral Springs, Fla./Laurel Springs) concluded a lengthy run at the 11th annual Baylor-HEB Invitational Saturday as he won in the round of 16 before bowing out in the quarterfinals.
In his first match of the day in the round of 16, Wolf knocked off the field's sixth highest-rated player, Oklahoma's Peerakit Siributwong. Siributwong entered the tournament ranked No. 84 in the Campbell's/ITA fall rankings, but Wolf won the tightly contested match by scores of 6-3, 3-6 and 6-3. With the victory, the Coral Springs, Fla., native moved on to the quarterfinal round where he would face Baylor's Roberto Maytin.
Maytin, ranked No. 43 overall and number three in the draw on his home courts, was able to slow Wolf's momentum and end his three-match winning streak in the single's draw. Maytin bested Wolf in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
The Wildcats will now turn their attention to the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Pre-qualifying for that event begins Saturday, Oct. 1 and continues through Monday, Oct. 3. Qualifying commences on Oct. 4-5.
