Northwestern, Michigan State Battle to 1-1 Draw in Double-Overtime

EVANSTON, Ill. - It took two extra periods but Northwestern and Michigan State battled to a 1-1 draw in front of 809 fans at Lakeside Field Saturday night. Each team tallied second-half goals with the Spartans striking first as MSU's Adam Montague scored on a header off a free kick in the 62nd minute. NU junior midfielder Kyle Schickel (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier) evened the score on a cross in from the left flank at the 87th minute and sophomore defender Scott Lakin (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) was credited with the assist (his second of the season). Northwestern outshot MSU 3-1 in the two overtime periods but could not find the back of the net.

NU had a 14-3 advantage on shots in the game and 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Three Wildcats had three shots each including sophomore midfielder Lepe Seetane (Lesotho, Africa/Trinity), sophomore forward Reed Losee (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) and senior forward Oliver Kupe (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston). The Wildcats had four looks at the net in the first half, including a shot by Losee that hit the post.

In the second half, NU had the 7-1 advantage in shots and a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks (14-2 advantage for the game). The Wildcats also had a one-man advantage as MSU's Ryan Keener received a red card in the 58th minute.

Freshman Tyler Miller (Woodbury, N.J./Bishop Eustace) registered one save for the Wildcats in goal while MSU's Jeremy Clark had five saves, three in the first half.

Northwestern returns to non-conference action Wednesday, but doesn't have to travel far as the Wildcats head to Chicago to take on DePaul. Please note that Wednesday's game is scheduled for a Noon start.
