DeKALB, Ill. -- Northwestern placed eight runners in the top 10 at the Huskie Open hosted by Northern Illinois Saturday morning to earn its second straight first-place team finish to open the 2011 campaign. Leading the way was junior Audrey Huth, who took second overall with her time of 17:57.
Northwestern had no problem holding off second-place Saint Louis as the 'Cats posted a team total of 23 points to SLU's 52. St. Norbert College and Creighton managed to take second and third in the team standings, respectively, while SLU's Hilary Orf was the first individual finisher in 17:47.
Sophomore Lexie Goldsmith took more than 20 seconds off her 5K time from a week ago to claim third place at the Huskie Open, finishing in 18:07 and in third overall. Junior Ashley Greenwell then marked the start of six consecutive Wildcats to finish with her time of 18:35, good for fifth place.
Senior Rachel Kaminski checked in in sixth overall by crossing in 18:42, crossing nearly simultaneously with sophomore teammate Ann Powers, whose time also marked an improvement of 30 seconds over last week's Crusader Open.
Senior Sophie Ewald (18:48), junior Lauren Neuschel (19:03) and junior Moira Ryan (19:05) rounded out the meet's top 10.
Complete results from Saturday's meet are available at the top of the page. Northwestern is next in action on Sept. 24 when the Wildcats split their squad to compete at the Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota and the Forester Invitational in Lake Forest.
