EVANSTON, Ill. -- A week before the start of the 2011-12 season, Northwestern's Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) is earning national recognition for her consistent performance on the course. The Wildcat junior was named to GolfWorld's Top 50 Female Players to Watch list in the magazine's preview of the upcoming year for collegiate golf. Weaver was one of three Big Ten players to make the list established by the Golf Digest publication.

Weaver holds three program records for Northwestern: single round score (66), 54-hole score (208) and season scoring average (74.49). She currently holds NU's career stroke average (75.11) and is on pace to retain the mark by the time her career comes to a close.
As a sophomore, Weaver shined, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors. She appeared in all 12 events for the 'Cats and led the Northwestern scorecard eight times. She finished in the top-20 overall in nine tournaments, including seven times in the top-10. Her first-place finish in the 2010 Lady Northern -- hosted by Northwestern -- was secured by her record performance, shooting a 6-under 66 in the first round leading to her 8-under 208 54-hole score. Toward the end of the season, Northwestern set a club program record for 72-hole score (1,187) at the Big Ten Championships in Glencoe, Ill., assisted by Weaver's second-place finish (2-over 290).
Looking ahead, Weaver is a part of an experienced Wildcat program which is coming off its best postseason finish in five years, finishing in 10th-place at the NCAA Central Regional Championships. The 'Cats will try to build on last year's success when the 2011-12 season gets underway at the Dale McNamara Invitational in Tulsa, Okla., on Sept. 12-14.
