Five Northwestern Big Ten Games to Appear on ESPN Family of Networks

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern men's basketball will have five regular season Big Ten Conference games televised by the ESPN family of networks during the 2011-12 season the network announced Tuesday.

Three NU games will be shown on ESPNU while two others will air on either ESPN or ESPN2.

The Wildcats' first appearance on ESPNU will be the Sunday, Jan. 1 conference home opener against Penn State.

Northwestern will have consecutive home games shown on either ESPN or ESPN2 as the Saturday, Jan. 28 contest vs. Purdue will be shown as will Nebraska's first trip to Welsh-Ryan Arena on Thursday, Feb. 2.

The 'Cats return to the ESPNU airwaves Thursday, Feb. 9 when they host Iowa. The final appearance on ESPNU is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25 when Northwestern travels to Penn State.

Coupled with its Nov. 17 contest with LSU in the opening round of the Charleston Classic and a Nov. 29 game at Georgia Tech in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, Northwestern will have at least seven games during the 2011-12 season televised by either ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. All three of the Wildcats' games in the Charleston Classic could potentially be broadcast by ESPNU.

The remainder of the Big Ten Conference schedule is slated to be announced Wednesday, Sept. 7.
