MORAGA, Calif. -- Kate Allen (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) scored a pair of goals, but it wasn't enough to lift Northwestern to victory, as the Wildcats lost at Saint Mary's, 3-2, Thursday night.

Allen's first goal came in the 10th minute and put the Wildcats in front for the first time this season. Julie Sierks (Edina, Minn./Edina) and Sami Schrakamp (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) each assisted on the tally. Allen added a second goal in the 85th minute off an assist from freshman Georgia Waddle (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), but the Wildcats were unable to find an equalizer in the closing minutes.

The effort marked the second multi-goal game of Allen's career, and was the first time a Northwestern player scored two goals in a game since Allen did it against DePaul in August 2010.

Saint Mary's scored three goals in a stretch of 23 minutes that spanned halftime. Christina Tognetti scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 55th minute.

Northwestern (0-4-0) outshot the Gaels (2-1-1), 16-4, in the match - including a 10-3 margin in shots on goal. Saint Mary's goalkeeper Kate Brenot had eight saves in the match. Allen, Sierks and Emily Langston (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) each had a pair of shots on goal for NU.

Northwestern continues its California road swing on Sunday when the Wildcats pay their first-ever visit to Stanford. The Cardinal are ranked second in this week's NSCAA Top 25. NU returns home to Lakeside Field on Wednesday, Sept. 14 for a 7 p.m. game against Loyola (Chicago).
