EVANSTON, Ill. - ESPN announced today the start times and television designations for the contests in the 2011 Big Ten/ACC Challenge Presented by Dick's Sporting Goods. Northwestern's road game against Georgia Tech will tip at 6:15 p.m. Central time on Nov. 29 and is being televised live by ESPNU.
ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3.com will combine to televise all 12 games of the two-day event, one more than in the previous 12 Challenges because of the addition of Nebraska to the Big Ten Conference. The 2011 Big Ten/ACC Challenge schedule, including times and outlets, is listed below.
The Wildcats defeated the Yellow Jackets 91-71 in Evanston last season to help the Big Ten earn the Commissioner's Cup with the Challenge victory for the second straight season. This will be the second all-time meeting between Northwestern and Georgia Tech.
Northwestern is 5-7 in its first 12 Big Ten/ACC Challenge matchups, including four wins in the last five years and three consecutive. Prior to the 2010-11 season, the only Big Ten team to win Challenge games in three consecutive years was Penn State. Ohio State and Wisconsin joined NU last year in adding to that list.
The Wildcats went 20-14 during the 2010-11 season, including 7-11 in Big Ten play. NU participated in the National Invitation Tournament for the third consecutive season, advancing to the quarterfinal round. Northwestern is set to return nine letterwinners, including four starters, from last year's squad.
Georgia Tech posted a 13-18 overall record and a 5-11 mark in ACC play during the 2010-11 campaign. The Yellow Jackets are set to begin their first season under new head coach Brian Gregory who served as an assistant coach at Northwestern during the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons.
