Adam Frey Classic -- Official Website
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern alum Andrew Nadhir, a 2011 NCAA All-American at 149 pounds for the Wildcats, has been announced as one of the all-star competitors at the Adam Frey Classic wrestling tournament to be held at Rider University (Lawrenceville, N.J.) on Saturday, July 30.
The Adam Frey Classic is held annually in memory of the former Cornell wrestler and pits college and post-graduate all-stars against each other in a dual meet format. All proceeds benefit the Adam Frey Foundation, an organization established by Adam Frey to provide for the needs of cancer patients beyond research or medical care.
"The Adam Frey Classic is an outstanding event and Andrew is honored to be included," said Northwestern head coach Drew Pariano. "Andrew and I have worked out together several times recently and he feels good. He still has a strong desire to compete and honor Adam's legacy in the process."
Nadhir, one of several former NCAA All-Americans and national champions in this year's field, is scheduled to open competition against Steve Santos of Columbia.
Nadhir completed a remarkable career in 2011 by placing sixth nationally at the NCAA Championships as a senior, capping a final year in which he was 34-8 overall and 19-1 in dual meets. He earned a spot on the podium in Philadelphia despite entering the draw as the No. 11 seed and losing his opening bout, coming back with victories over opponents seeded third and seventh along the way.
For his four years in Evanston, the Detroit native was 82-50 -- including 58-20 in his last two seasons -- with 23 career wins by major decision.
According to the organization's website, the Classic is modeled in Adam's vision being a great atmosphere of competition as well as a festive atmosphere to celebrate Adam's life and the friendships that make up the wrestling community. Tickets to the all-star matchups as well as a pre-tournament coaches clinic are available on the official website of the Adam Frey Classic.
