SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- After a lightning delay of over two hours in north central Indiana, Northwestern closed out the 2011 NCAA Women's Golf Central Regionals with an 18-over 306 in the final round. NU finished the regionals in 10th-place with a combined score of 50-over 914, merely five strokes away from qualifying for the NCAA Championships. The finish was the best for a Northwestern team since 2006.

The Wildcats were led once again by the consistent play of Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) who fired a 4-over 76 in the third round. The senior shot a team-best two birdies on Saturday and bogeyed six times. Lederhausen had the best tournament for Northwestern, finishing with a 9-over 225, which placed her in a tie for 18th-place.

Freshman Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic), after jumping out of the gates with a 1-over 73 in the first round, shot a 5-over 77 for the second-straight day. Teeing off at the 10th hole to start the day, Brown shot for bogeys in a row on the back nine before maintaining even-par for most of the way through, aided by a birdie on the fifth hole. Brown finished the regionals in second place in the team race for Northwestern, posting an 11-over 227 after three rounds.

Tying for the best round of the day for NU was Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central). The senior, like her sister, birdied twice and bogeyed six times leaving her at 4-over 76. Her 14-over 230 was good enough for third for Northwestern and placed her in a tie for 41st-place in the overall individual standings.

Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) rebounded from a tough day on Friday, shooting a 5-over 77 to close out her final round. Weaver, after ending the first round with a 2-over 74, ended in a tie for 56th-place, her lowest finish this season. Senior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) rounded out the Wildcat lineup with a 10-over 82. Her 28-over 244 placed her in a tie for 109th.

UCLA went wire-to-wire in the regionals, never losing a grip on first place. The Bruins shot a 26-over 890, edging LSU in second by four strokes. Minnesota ended up in third with a 33-over 897, followed by Arkansas at 35-over 899 and host Notre Dame at 37-over 901. With the top-eight schools advancing to the NCAA Championships, Ohio State, Stanford and Wake Forest will also be continuing their season in College Station, Texas, May 18-21.

Northwestern's 2010-11 campaign comes to close, but the season was full of highlights as the 'Cats finished in the top-10 nine times in 12 tournaments, including second-place finishes at the Lady Northern and the Big Ten Championships. Lauren Weaver earned first-team All-Big Ten honors and head coach Emily Fletcher was chosen as the Big Ten Co-Coach of the Year.
