ERIE, Colo. -- Thursday's first round of the NCAA Colorado Regional has been suspended late in the action after storms with lightning moved into the area. Northwestern remains on the course with one Wildcat having finished his round while the other four still have holes to complete.

Scored for the opening round are unofficial, but with six teams finished and seven still on the Colorado National course, Northwestern is in eighth place, three strokes behind the current fifth-place team. The top five team finishers at the Regional advance to the NCAA National Championships.

In temperatures hovering around the mid 40s with periodic rain, Northwestern got off to a rough start as it teed off No. 10 to begin its Regional. The Wildcats quickly moved to 5-over as a team after playing the par-3 14th hole in a combined 5-over par, but then stabilized and began rolling in birdies. Following a Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) bogey on No. 15, NU played its next 20 combined holes in 5-under par with one birdie from each 'Cat on the course.

Northwestern made the turn at 4-over as a team and still was right on that number when play was suspended. The Wildcats were buoyed on the front side by freshman Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) in the No. 5 position in the lineup and sophomore Nick Losole (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Notre Dame) in the No. 4 spot. Those two combined to shoot 2-under par on the front, with Losole still needing to complete No. 9.

Perry carried his stellar final-round play at the Big Ten Championships over into Thursday's opening round at the NCAA Regional, charging for three birdies in his final six holes to card a 1-under 71. Perry coupled a pair of birdies with a pair of bogeys for an even-par 36 on the back nine, then found himself at 2-over following back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 2 and 3. At that point he flipped the switch, making birdie at Nos. 4, 7 and 8 to finish the day in red numbers.

Perry also shot a 1-under 71 on Sunday at the conference championships. The total is his collegiate-low, which he has achieved three times this season. Perry is 15th individually in the NCAA Regional field after Thursday's abbreviated action.

Losole had a rough start to his Regional, making four bogeys (and one birdie) in his first six holes to turn in a 3-over 39 on the back side. A birdie immediately after the turn and then even-par golf the rest of the way have him at 2-over par with the ninth hole yet to complete.

Junior Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) had two birdies and a bogey on the back side for a 1-under 35, but a pair of bogeys at Nos. 3 and 5 have him 1-over par with two holes to play. Senior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) has the most action left in his opening round, still needing to complete a trio of holes. A double bogey early in his round at No. 14 contributed to Lipsky being 2-over par when the horn sounded.

Dupont rounded out the Wildcats' Thursday scores at 6-over par through 16 holes.

Following the completion of round one, the second round of the NCAA Colorado Regional takes place tomorrow, Friday, May 20. Live results are available at Golfstat.com while live tweets from the course courtesy of head coach Pat Goss can be found on Twitter @NUGolf_Live.
