EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the second year in a row, Northwestern's Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) was named as an All-Big Ten selection, this time earning first-team All-Conference honors. The sophomore standout recently placed second in the Big Ten Championships, helping the Wildcats to a third-place team finish.

Weaver is on pace to set a Northwestern women's golf single-season record for stroke average with her 74.24 average through the Big Ten Championships. Former Wildcat Alice Kim currently holds the record with her 74.76 average in 2005-06. Weaver maintained an outstanding sophomore season, compiling seven top-10 finishes, including first place in the Lady Northern.

Wildcats head coach Emily Fletcher also was recognized by the conference as she was named Big Ten Co-Coach of the Year alongside Wisconsin's Todd Oehrlein. Fletcher oversaw a Northwestern team that finished in the top-five of five tournaments this season, including a second-place team finish in the Lady Northern.

With its score last weekend of 1,187, Fletcher's Wildcats broke a school record for the lowest score in a Big Ten Championship tournament, led by Weaver's 2-over 290 and Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central), who finished third in the tournament with her 4-over 292.

Alex's older sister, Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central), was named Northwestern's 2011 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient.

Northwestern continues its season next week at the NCAA Regional Championships in South Bend, Ind., where it will compete with the likes of Duke, UCLA, Stanford and Notre Dame. Northwestern, making its ninth NCAA appearance, has finished in the top-15 of every NCAA regional event it has played. In 2000, the Wildcats finished second at regionals and earned a trip to the NCAA National Championships.
