Northwestern Announces 2010-11 Season Team Awards

April 18, 2011

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern announced its team award winners for the 2010-11 season at its post-season banquet. The three honors included junior Jenny Wilson (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) winning the team's Most Valuable performer award.

Wilson qualified for the championship finals in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at the 2011 Big Ten Championships for Northwestern, swimming career-best times in both races. She ranks second all-time in NU history in both distances. During the dual-meet season, Wilson won a trio of races and compiled eight total top-three event finishes.

Junior Hannah Points (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin) was named Northwestern's Most Improved student-athlete for the season. Points broke the school record in the 400 IM to win the consolation final of the event at the Big Ten Championships. The swim was one of three career-best efforts for the distance stroke specialist at the conference meet.

Sophomore Meaghan Fenn (New Rochelle, N.Y./The Ursuline School) was named the Kathie Wickstrand Spirit Award winner. The award is named in honor of former Northwestern head coach Kathie Wickstrand, who was well known for her team building and spirit on the deck at the Big Ten and NCAA Championships. Wickstrand proudly displayed wild purple outfits and had the team in bright purple gear well before such practices became popular. In 2010-11, Fenn most perfectly reflected that Wickstrand spirit for NU.
