EVANSTON, Ill. -- After spending last weekend competing in North Carolina, Northwestern heads out west this week to participate in the first Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Half Moon Bay, Calif. The two-day tournament features some familiar opponents for the `Cats as they will face six clubs they have already seen at least once in tournament action this year.

Hosted by both UC Davis and Oregon, the 54-hole tournament gets underway with a shotgun start on Monday, April 2 and wraps Tuesday, April 3. In its first year, the event will be played on the scenic Ocean Course at Half Moon Bay Golf Links, which is just outside San Jose, Calif.

Twelve teams will compete in the inaugural event, including six teams ranked among the top-50 in this week's Golfstat.com ratings. Teeing it up at Half Moon Bay in the top-50 are No. 17 UC Davis, No. 27 Texas A&M, No. 31 Colorado, No. 37 Oregon, No. 40 Northwestern and No. 42 UNLV. Also in the hunt for the title are No. 61 Texas Tech, No. 70 San Jose State, No. 72 Long Beach State, No. 99 Colorado State, No. 103 Fresno State, and No. 112 San Francisco rounding out the field.

Northwestern battled poor weather conditions last week, but finished strong with a 13th-place showing in the power-laden Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C. Senior Wildcat Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) led Northwestern with her 34th-place finish in the field. Standout sophomore Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) finished close behind Lindenschmidt, placing 38th.

Live scoring for the 2011 Pacific Coast Intercollegiate will be available both days at Golfstat.com.
