EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's men's soccer team has set its 2011 spring schedule. Action kicks off Sunday, April 3 with a pair of games at Lakeside Field.
The Wildcats open their nontraditional season with a match against Milwaukee at 12:30 p.m. before taking on Lewis at 3 p.m.
NU hosts a trio of matches the following weekend, beginning with a contest against UW-Parkside at 9 p.m. Friday, April 8. Two days later, the Wildcats square off against Green Bay at 2:15 p.m. before taking on Bradley at 4:45 p.m.
Northwestern participates in the Chicago Cup April 16 hosted by Loyola Chicago. The 'Cats open up against the host Ramblers at 11:30 a.m. After a match between UIC and DePaul, the consolation game is slated for 2 p.m. followed by the championship match at 3:15 p.m.
The Wildcats wrap up their spring season April 30 at University of Chicago. NU challenges Illinois Institute of Technology at 1 p.m. prior to meeting host Chicago at 3:40 p.m.
"This is a very important spring for us as for the first time in five years we are not coming off of an NCAA Tournament appearance," Northwestern head coach Tim Lenahan said. "I really enjoy coaching in the spring since you get to see new players emerge and you can experiment with various systems and tactics.
"While winning is always important, it is one of the few times you really focus on performance rather than results. We have worked very hard over the last few months to raise the standards of our play. In the spring we get to find out if our performance can match those standards."
