Hosted by both UNC Greensboro and Wake Forest, the 54-hole tournament gets underway Friday, March 25 and wraps up Sunday, March 27. The tournament, in its 13th year, is being played at the Bryan Park Champions Course -- home of the 2010 USGA's Amateur Public Links Championship.
Seventeen teams will compete in this year's event, including seven teams ranked among the top-25 in this week's Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. The top-50 teams teeing it up at Bryan Park are No. 6 Duke, No. 8 Virginia, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 15 Wake Forest, No. 17 Michigan State, No. 18 Vanderbilt, No. 19 North Carolina, No. 30 Florida State, No. 31 Ohio State, No. 35 South Carolina, No. 37 Washington, No. 39 Northwestern and No. 41 Louisville. Also challenging for the title are the College of Charleston, co-host UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington and North Carolina State.
"The Bryan Intercollegiate is one of the premier events in college golf and it always draws a strong field," says Emily Fletcher, the Wildcats' head coach. "We need to pick up where we left off a few weeks ago and create some momentum for Big Ten's."
Northwestern, which placed 10th in last year's Bryan Intercollegiate, is coming off a sixth-place finish at last month's Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla. Sophomore Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) posted her second straight top-20 finish in that event, placing 17th. She leads the Wildcats with six top-20 placings, including four top-10 finishes. Weaver won the Lady Northern Invitational individual title in the fall.
Junior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) and freshman Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) follow Weaver in the team's stroke average chart with respective marks of 75.76 and 76.57.
Live scoring for the 2011 Bryan National Collegiate will be available all weekend at Golfstat.com.
