EVANSTON, Ill. -- On the heels of a three-goal performance in her first career home game, Northwestern freshman Kelly Rich has been spotlighted as the American Lacrosse Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Rich came off the bench to tally the first hat trick of her young career, helping NU trounce California 19-8 on Friday.
Rich netted back-to-back goals in the opening six minutes of the second half as the Wildcats distanced themselves from the Golden Bears for their sixth straight win to start the season. The Westwood, Mass., native now has eight goals on 12 shots through six contests.
Rich is Northwestern's second ALC Rookie of the Week honoree after classmate Alyssa Leonard claimed the award in Week 1 of the 2011 regular season.
This weekend, NU heads south to Texas where it will square off with William & Mary in the inaugural 'Dallax' event in majestic Cowboys Stadium. Look for complete coverage of Northwestern's experience in Dallas on NUsports.com in the coming days.
