EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern was recognized Tuesday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) for achieving the highest collective team GPA among all Division I field hockey programs for the fall academic period. NU, which placed 13 individuals on the 2010 Academic All-Big Ten team, amassed a team GPA of 3.54 for the fall quarter.

"We had a great year on the field but I'm glad that our players are being recognized for how much work they put into their academics during the season," said second-year head coach Tracey Fuchs. "Over the course of a field hockey season it would be easy to let your studies slip but our team does an outstanding job of staying committed to their schoolwork."

To be named an NFHCA All-Academic Team honoree, a team must carry a GPA of at least 3.0 during the first semester or quarter of the 2010-11 school year.

Northwestern finished the 2010 season with an 11-9 mark and a 3-3 record in the Big Ten as Fuchs led NU to a second-straight winning season in her second year at the helm in Evanston.
