2011 Central District Invitational Results - Rounds One and Two
PARRISH, Fla. -- A balanced effort by Northwestern has the Wildcats sitting in prime position heading into the final round of the Central District Invitational as the Wildcats post a 22-over 598 through Monday's first two rounds. NU heads into Tuesday with a three-player log jam atop the scorecard as junior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central), sophomore Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) and freshman Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) all posted a 5-over 149 through the opening 36 holes of the tournament.
Northwestern opened the day connection on all of its shots, compiling a 6-over 294 through the opening 18 holes, led by Brown's even-par 72 - the second par or better round of her young Wildcat career which included four birdies. Brown finished one stroke better than senior Kelsey Lindenschmidt's (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) 1-over 73, marking the second-lowest round of her Northwestern career. Lederhausen (2-over 74) and Weaver (3-over 75) also kept the Wildcats in the hunt as the 294 was NU's third-lowest round of the season and the fourth time this year head coach Emily Fletcher's squad had tallied a sub-300 round.
The afternoon round proved to be more of a challenge for all 15 teams as the majority of schools posted higher second round totals, including Northwestern. The Wildcats shot a 16-over 304 over the second 18 holes, led by Weaver's 2-over 74. Lederhausen followed up her impressive round one with a solid 3-over 75 in round two with Brown adding a 5-over 77 and Lindenschmidt posting a 6-over 78. Senior Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) rounded out the Northwestern scorecard, shooting a 7-over 79 in both of the day's rounds.
Northwestern, coming off its sixth-place finish at the Lady Puerto Rico last week, heads into Tuesday's final rounds just two strokes back of fifth-place Kent State (20-over 596). The Wildcats have also been the top Big Ten team through the opening 36 holes, leading the five other conference competitors, including 19th-ranked Michigan State and 25th-ranked Ohio State. Northwestern also has a solid lead over a pair of top-20 programs in 12th-ranked Arkansas and 20th-ranked Notre Dame.
LSU, ranked fourth in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings this week, sits atop the field with a 7-over 583, holding a slim one shot lead over second-place Texas A&M (8-over 584) heading into the Central District Invitational final round. It should be a competitive day at River Wilderness Country Club Tuesday as third-place Iowa State (9-over 585) and fourth-place TCU (11-over 587) also remain well within striking distance of the team title.
Tuesday's crucial final round gets underway with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. CT. Northwestern will be paired with Kent State and TCU in the final round threesomes and will begin play from holes 4-7 Tuesday morning.
