CSCAA Division I Men's All-America Team Release (PDF Format)
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Both Northwestern men's and women's swimming and diving programs have been honored as Fall 2010 Scholar All-America teams by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), with NU's women's team earning the second-highest GPA among all Division I programs nationwide.
The Wildcat women earned a collective GPA of 3.6 to rank No. 1 among all BCS programs and second in the country as a whole behind Gardner-Webb's 3.63 mark. The honor shows continued excellence for Northwestern in the classroom; last year NU set a program record with 22 Academic All-Big Ten selections.
Northwestern's men's program also earned the Scholar All-America Team award in the fall, ranking in the top-10 in the nation in Division I with a 3.24 collective GPA. The Wildcats also are tops among their Big Ten brethren in the rankings.
Northwestern is the lone BCS school to have both its men's and women's programs rank in the top 10 during the fall of 2010. NU joins Gardner-Webb and Lafayette College to form a trio of Division I schools with two top-10 programs.
The Team Scholar All-America Award is presented to college or university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The honor is presented twice during the year, once in the fall semester and against in the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).
The CSCAA is the oldest coaches organization in America. In addition to Scholar All-America awards, the CSCAA recognizes the All-America swimmers and divers at the national championships each year. Former Northwestern head coach Bob Groseth is the current executive director of the CSCAA.
