EVANSTON, ILL.-- Northwestern will look to hop back on the winning track at noon Sunday when it faces Minnesota for Senior Day, which will be carried live on the Big Ten Network. Seniors Meshia Reed, Beth Marshall and Amy Jaeschke will be honored before the game for their many contributions to the program. Sophomore forward Kendall Hackney will sing the National Anthem as a tribute to the senior class.
Additionally, long-time NU women's basketball head coach Don Perrelli, members of the 1990 Big Ten Championship team and other alumnae will be in attendance for Alumnae Day at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Perrelli coached for 15 seasons (1984-1999) in Evanston while recording 251 wins and guiding the Wildcats to a Big Ten Championship, five NCAA Tournament appearances and a trip to the WNIT.
Halftime entertainment will be a game of capture the flag, which is sponsored by Diet Coke to raise awareness and funds for women's heart health programs.
Two teams of Northwestern students, led by honorary team captains University President Morton Schapiro and five-time NCAA Champion Women's Lacrosse head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller, will compete for funding for local heart health organizations. The winning team will receive $1,500 and the runner-up will walk away with $1,000. This is on top on the $10,000 donation Coca-Cola is making to the Bluhm Cardiovascular Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the $5,000 donation to the Center for Women's Cardiovascular Health, also at Northwestern Memorial. Checks will be presented to the organizations shortly after the capture the flag contest.
