EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern faces a tall task Thursday evening, traveling to Big Ten front-runner and No. 10/11 Michigan State for a 6 p.m. CT match-up, which will be streamed live on www.bigtennetwork.com. The Spartans are undefeated at the Breslin Center and sport an impressive 22-3 overall record and a 10-2 mark in League action.
Following Thursday's game, the Wildcats return home to face Minnesota at noon Sunday. It's Senior Day at Welsh-Ryan Arena and Northwestern will honor Meshia Reed, Beth Marshall and Amy Jaeschke. Additionally, alumnae of the program, including long-time NU mentor Don Perrelli, will return for special recognition. The Wildcats then travel to No. 23/25 Penn State Sunday, Feb. 27 for the final regular season game. Tip is slated for 11 a.m. CT. The contests against Minnesota and Penn State will be carried live on the Big Ten Network.
Jaeschke Climbs NCAA Division I Career Blocks List
Amy Jaeschke's 346 career blocks currently places her 21st on the NCAA Division I career blocks list. Jaeschke ranks fifth in the nation with 3.6 blocks per outing.
Jaeschke Moves Into Second on NU's All-Time Scoring List
Senior Amy Jaeschke's 11th point against Ohio State on Feb. 6 scooted her into second on Northwestern's all-time scoring list. She currently boasts 1,849 career points and has led Northwestern in scoring in 21 out of NU's 26 games.
Jaeschke, Marshall Reach Milestones
Amy Jaeschke and Beth Marshall both moved up in the Wildcat record book this past Sunday against Iowa. Jaeschke's 3rd rebound at moved her into second on the NU career rebounds list, and Marshall's first 3-pointer put her at 5th in career 3-point field goals made.
Jones Rakes In High School All-America Honors
Future Wildcat Morgan Jones was named a McDonald's High School All-American and a WBCA High School All-American, it was announced in the past week.
The senior will participate on the West team in the McDonald's All-American game at the end of March. The game will take place at 6:30 p.m. CT at the United Center in Chicago, Ill., on March 30. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
Jones will take part in the 2011 WBCA High School All-America Game presented by Nike at 3:30 CT on Saturday, April 2 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Jones becomes the second Wildcat to be named a McDonald's All-American, as current senior captain and All-America candidate Amy Jaeschke earned the honor as a high school senior. Jaeschke was an honorable mention WBCA All-American.
Hackney Named Second-Team Academic All-District
Sophomore Kendall Hackney was named to the District 5 Academic All-District Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSida). Hackney is a communication studies major and becomes the first Wildcat since Sara Stutz (2008) to be tabbed an Academic All-District honoree.
Beside the Point
While Northwestern currently ranks fifth in the Big Ten in scoring, it's more than points that help a team win. The 'Cats hold a 10-5 record when they out rebound their opponent. Additionally, they are 7-4 when they record at least 15 assists and 5-3 when they total 20 or more.
