EVANSTON, Ill. -- Fresh off a long respite for finals week, Northwestern settles in for a nice, long Chicagoland "home" stretch, beginning with Central Michigan at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11. The Wildcats travel into the city to face DePaul Monday evening before returning home to wrap-up the nonconference season against Northern Illinois, Northern Arizona and Toledo. For Starters:
Jaeschke on the Big Stage
The first round of NCAA statistics came out this week, and Amy Jaeschke's name is littered among the national leaders. The 6-5 center is eighth in the country in scoring (22.5 ppg), seventh in blocked shots (3.6 bpg) and fourth in double-doubles with five on the season. Her triple double against Chicago State is the most of its variety in the nation as well.
Putting the Time In
Three Wildcats appear in the top 10 in minutes played this year--the most of any League squad. Senior Beth Marshall leads the way with 36.2 mpg; that's second in the Big Ten, while fellow classmate Amy Jaeschke and junior Brittany Orban are averaging 33.8 and 34.1 mpg, respectively.
Marshall Hits Milestone
Fifth-year senior Beth Marshall swished her 100th career three-pointer against Missouri last Sunday, a feat that is more remarkable than you might think. Marshall has only played two full seasons of basketball in her career, participating her freshman year and then sitting out the next two seasons due to injury. Which means, 2010-11 is just her third season playing college basketball, and she already ranks eighth on NU's all-time three-pointers made list.
Don't Take Offense
Junior Brittany Orban has never been shy about going after a rebound or hustling for a lose ball. The Canton, Ohio, native hauled down 17 rebounds against LSU, which is the second-best performance in the Big Ten this season. She also ranks fourth in the League in offensive rebounds, averaging 3.0 per game. Additionally, Orban leads the Conference in three-point shooting percentage, converting 66.7 percent of the time.
